Did the prophet actually choose a successor after him? This is where all the confusion began till date. No one has the full story except Allah(S.W.T) alone. So who among these TWO should we believe? Shi’a or Sunni?

Yes he did! they are the four khulafau rashidun, the main Sahabas of prophet Muhammad s.a.w. (Abu bakrin, Umar, Uthman and Ali. radiyallahu anhum).
Unlike Shias who claimed to have twelve successors of prophet s.a.w. only three of the twelve are Sahabas, the rest of them are not. even most of them were not qualified as Tabi’in (those who saw Sahabas).
The true Islam is the Sunni sect. the prophet s.a.w. left behind only Quran and Sunna and the Sunna of his Sahabas. So i advise you to stick to Sunna, reject any other sect such as Suffism and Shiasm.
